Title: Crash
GoodReads Summary:
If what you see is what you get, Jules is in serious trouble. The suspenseful first of four books from the New York Timesbestselling author of the Wake trilogy.
Jules lives with her family above their restaurant, which means she smells like pizza most of the time and drives their double-meatball-shaped food truck to school. It’s not a recipe for popularity, but she can handle that.
What she can’t handle is the recurring vision that haunts her. Over and over, Jules sees a careening truck hit a building and explode...and nine body bags in the snow.
The vision is everywhere—on billboards, television screens, windows—and she’s the only one who sees it. And the more she sees it, the more shesees. The vision is giving her clues, and soon Jules knows what she has to do. Because now she can see the face in one of the body bags, and it’s someone she knows. Someone she has been in love with for as long as she can remember.
In this riveting start to a gripping series from New York Times bestselling author Lisa McMann, Jules has to act—and act fast—to keep her vision from becoming reality.
My thoughts:
This book wasn't what I
expected. At all. Good yes, interesting yes, I ate it up in a day, but what I
expected? Heck to the no. I liked it, I didn't love it. The characters weren't my favorites, but I didn't hate them. (I love Trey though. I want him as my best
friend, he can replace Rose. No offense to her or anything, it’s just, he’s a
little more awesome, braver, and he just sounds like so much fun I wanna shove
him in my purse and take him with me everywhere I go.) I am a super fan of
McMann’s Wake Trilogy, so was expecting a lot. However I think that the Wake Trilogy
and Crash are totally different and I
can’t even think to compare them.
Here’s why I didn't love Crash all too much. When I read
the description, I originally thought there would be a vision, trouble, trust
issues, and a shock of an ending, with a giant cliff hanger. I figured that the
vision mentioned with the crash and body bags would only be the beginning, and
a bunch of others would happen in story. That didn't happen. Crash really is about the one vision that Jules has of a truck
crashing into a restaurant. So it wasn't as intense till the end, and that made
the pace a bit slower. Now, I didn't completely fall for this book, but I really did enjoy reading it.
Jules, Sawyer, Trey(the
best!), Rowan, all of them are really great characters. Sometimes I did get
annoyed with what they were doing, or how the acted, but most of the time I had
sympathy for the trouble they were in. The thing with Jules is the fact that
she really has nothing to go on here, she knows she’s supposed to be saving
these people in her vision, yet she has no idea how. I don’t like certain
things she said to other characters, but other times I was all “you go girl!” She’s
really an all or nothing, going to say whatever I feel, kinda gal. Sawyer I got
sick of pretty quickly, I just didn't really fall in love him, or his story. As
nice and sweet as he is, he didn't come off as a thoroughly developed
character.
The ending was
something I was NOT predicting. It didn't leave off in an “Oh gosh no, no, no,
no, no!!!!” cliff hanger. But it definitely left off with lots and lots of
potential for another awesome book. I was at ties with wanting it to end sadly
in a not expecting that to happen way, and wanting a happily ever after.
Crash
was a really great read and earns itself a 4.5. Can’t wait for the next one!
